Prescott area dog owners have something else to celebrate this week besides the upcoming Christmas holiday. The Beneful dog food company has announced that Prescott was the winner of a $500,000 prize for a major dog park renovation.
“It’s a woof-worthy day for dogs and dog owners in Prescott, Ariz., as local resident, Linda Nichols and her four-legged best buddy Callie have been named the grand prize winner of the 2013 Beneful Dream Dog Park Contest,” stated a news release from Beneful.
Nichols was one of than 1,000 dog owners to enter the contest nationwide. She proposed a firefighter theme including a bronze Dalmatian at the entry to the dog park, along with a red fire truck playground and a bright hydrant water feature for dogs to cool off after running around the hot Arizona sun.
“It’s a good thing for Prescott, because we’re such an animal-friendly community,” said Prescott Mayor Marlin Kuykendall. “This is a perfect example of what one citizen can do on their own.”
Beneful will announce which park will receive the renovation in early 2014 and expects renovation construction to begin in the spring, according to the news release.
